PRAN NEWSLETTER ISSUE 3: February 2024

Winter Edition

February marks an exciting new chapter for PRAN, with the launch of our new website pran.org.uk, giving us a formal presence on the web!

Our website aims to provide a platform for organisations and individuals to share information about their experiences, work, ongoing projects, and good practices. Such information can be disseminated through the website, including our podcast, newsletter, or blog, as well as our social media channels. We encourage our members to utilise this website for their own benefit – promoting their work, campaigns, events, and research.

In other news:

Blog Alert: Check out our first blog about hope, written by Lee Collins of St Andrew’s Community Network.

New Podcast: Listen to our second segment of the Cost of Living Chronicles podcast here . In this segment, we are speaking with Prof Danny Dorling about income inequality in the UK.

Save the date: On the 30th of April 2024, PRAN will host the first SPA-funded workshop on Community-Centred Outreach and Participation. The workshop will be led by Aidan Jolly of Collective Encounters Theatre for Social Change and will feature Jonathon Prasad from the Global Race Centre for Equality (GRACE) and the Migrant Women’s Drama Group from 4Wings. The event will take place at Liverpool Hope Creative Campus (Shaw St, Liverpool L6 1HP) and will also be accessible online. More information about the workshop will be provided in our next newsletter.

Member News: We would like to bring your attention to a new project called 'Developing community-led, anti-poverty research capacity' developed by Alison Briggs, Elizabeth Ackerley and Sarah Marie Hall, academics from the University of Manchester. This project is carried out with several external partners who are working within their communities to alleviate issues of poverty. This project embeds collaborative working with grassroots leads, enlisting co-production techniques to reframe anti-poverty debates in Manchester to be more creative, progressive and community-led. The project aims to co-create a community-led research manifesto for researchers as well as co-write a journal article/commentary. We cannot wait to see how this project develops and hope to get further updates from Alison and her colleagues!

Call for collaborations/knowledge exchange: If you are conducting research on food insecurity and would like to share your expertise and explore potential research collaboration, please contact us, and we will connect you with Linda Heaton and Koser Khan (Lancaster University, ARC NWC Equitable Place Based Health and Care), who are developing their next research project!

Job Alert: End Furniture Poverty, the campaigning arm of FRC Group, is seeking to appoint a new Policy, Research & Campaigns Officer. This is a great opportunity to join the Fight Against Furniture Poverty! For more information click here.

PRAN has planned many more existing projects for 2024! Join us, participate in our activities, and shape the future of the network!

In Solidarity,

PRAN Team
